Classroom teachers must complete a full workshop to become certified to participate in this program.
Would you like to raise trout in your classroom? Your first step is to attend our full workshop, and become certified to participate in the Classroom Aquarium Education Program. CDFW has created interactive, dynamic and fun virtual teacher training workshops. Teachers who are interested in participating in this program must complete a one-day workshop before applying to raise eggs for the first time. Returning teachers need to recertify if they have more than a 3-year gap in participating with the program. Teachers who have hatched fish within the past three years do not need to attend a training, but are encouraged to attend as a refresher.
Workshops for the 2024/25 School Year
Important Update: No New Teachers in 2024/25
Due to staffing vacancies, Region 3 CAEP will not be accepting new teachers for the 24/25 school year. This decision was not made lightly, and we apologize for any potential new teachers who were looking forward to participating this year.
Teachers who are interested in carrying out CAEP, but are unable to join this year are invited to sign up for the 2025/2026 waitlist:
Waitlisted teachers will be contacted by their region’s sponsor next school year to determine eligibility. If you have any questions regarding your status in participating in this year's programs, please contact your sponsor. See a list of sponsors on the Parameters for Partners page.
Workshop Dates for Returning Teachers Needing to Recertify
Returning teachers need to recertify if they have 3+ year gap in participation. If your most recent CAEP participation was in the 2020/21 school year, and you want to participate in 2024/25, you must go through the recertification process this year. See details regarding recertification requirements on the CAEP: Forms and Guidelines page.
This year, due to staffing vacancies, Region 3 CAEP is unable to recertify teachers who have not participated in the program since the 2019/20 school year or earlier. If your most recent CAEP participation was in 2019/20 or prior, please check back next year to be recertified.
Region 3 has partnered with CAEP programs in CDFW Regions 2 and 5 to offer recertification workshops for eligible returning teachers in our region. Teachers who need to recertify this year may register for one of the following online CAEP workshops:
