Vessel Contingency Plan Review Program

Scientists taking samples by the side of the river

The Readiness Unit reviews and approves over 1500 vessel contingency plans that operate in California waters. Before a vessel can enter state waters, they must ensure that each plan contains a Qualified Individual (QI) with knowledge of the plan, a spill management team ready to integrate into the ICS structure, vessel particulars, contracted response resources including salvage and fire fighting, and the insurance coverage in case of an oil spill. The unit also processes revisions and ensure plans are submitted on time in compliance with the regulations.
