  • DATE: Chronic releases in the past.
  • INCIDENT SUMMARY: Intertidal and sub-tidal mudflats are contaminated with oil and mercury from historical discharges of wastewater and stormwater runoff from the Chevron Refinery into the adjacent marsh and cove.
  • RESPONSIBLE PARTY: Chevron
  • NATURAL RESOURCE TRUSTEES: California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, United States Fish and Wildlife Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
  • RESOURCES IMPACTED: Intertidal and subtidal mudflat and associated biota (invertebrates, shorebirds, fish).
  • SETTLEMENT DETAILS: The Trustees settled the NRDA portion of the case for $2.85 million to fund marsh restoration projects in the northern portion of San Francisco Bay.
  • STATUS OF RESTORATION: Restoration projects are complete.
