Improvements are coming to the Gray Lodge Wildlife Area in Butte County. Hosting more than100,000 visitors each year, Gray Lodge is one of the most heavily visited wildlife areas in the state and construction work will restrict some public access over the next several months.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has announced the closure of the Ocean Ranch Unit within the Eel River Wildlife Area as habitat restoration work intensifies there with the use of heavy equipment. The unit is being closed to all public access for safety effective Monday, July 11, 2022, through the end of the year.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has selected 23 ecosystem restoration and protection projects to fund under its Proposition 1 Watershed Restoration Grant and Delta Water Quality and Ecosystem Restoration Grant Program. The awards total $26 million.
