CDFW will hold an in-person public outreach meeting Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022, to solicit input on the management of the Lake Earl Wildlife Area in Del Norte County. Topics to be discussed include public access, habitat conditions, current and future restoration efforts.

CDFW's Mount Shasta Fish Hatchery Sign

CDFW will staff a voluntary, Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) check station at its Mount Shasta Fish Hatchery on the opening weekend of the general, north state deer season Saturday, Sept. 17 and Sunday, Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has announced that the Shasta Valley Wildlife Area in Siskiyou County will be closed to waterfowl hunting for the entirety of the 2022-23 season as a result of lost wetlands and waterfowl habitat due to ongoing drought conditions.

For the first time in three years, grouse and mountain quail hunters should find the state’s national forests along with California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) properties mostly open for hunting when seasons begin Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022. That’s the good news.
