Rare and Endangered Species Preservation Fund

Please help protect at-risk species in California by donating through the Voluntary Tax Contributions section on your California State Income Tax Form 540 or in your tax preparation software! The Rare and Endangered Species Preservation Fund was established in 1983 to help protect rare, threatened, and endangered plants and animals within California. The fund had been used to conduct conservation and research via contracts in the past. Funds are no longer awarded via contracts and they are now used to directly fund CDFW staff dedicated to protecting California’s rare and endangered species. Rare and Endangered Species Preservation Fund staff support important research and management projects, prepare scientific recommendations to help prevent species extinctions, participate in collaborative recovery teams, and provide information on California’s rare and endangered species to the public. Revenue and expenditures of the Rare and Endangered Species Preservation Fund are presented in the table below.
