Fundraising with Big Game License Tags

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has invited nonprofit organizations to help fundraise by auctioning big game hunting license tags for the 2023-24 hunt season.

Proceeds from the sale of these tags are returned to CDFW to fund projects that benefit bighorn sheep, deer, elk, and pronghorn antelope. Last year’s auctions raised more than $750,000 for the research and management of big game species. Past projects funded by the sale of these, and other hunting tags have included crucial habitat conservation, post-wildfire forest restoration, wildlife population studies and the installation of artificial watering devices to support wildlife during drought conditions.

Following the bid opening on October 24, 2022, an evaluation and review for responsiveness to the Call for
Applications, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife proposes to award agreements for the auction or
sale of big game fundraising license tags to multiple nonprofit organizations. At this time, it is anticipated that 2 bighorn sheep, 3 elk, 2 pronghorn, and 10 deer tags will be awarded. Please see the Notice of Intent to Award for more information.
