Ask Marine - Frequently Asked Questions

If a sea palm is washed up on the beach, is it legal to take?

restricted species, postelsia, wrack, CCR T14, Section 30.10

Unfortunately, you cannot take sea palm that is detached and/or washed onto the beach. Sea palm (Postelsia), along with eel grass (Zostera) and surf grass (Phyllospadix) cannot be taken (even if washed up) or disturbed. Other marine algae can be harvested for personal use (non-commercial use) under the recreational regulations.
