CDFW is kicking off the annual trout season opener with freshly stocked lakes, and with the mild weather it’s a great time to take advantage of an annual California tradition. The 2024 opener starts Saturday, April 27, one hour before sunrise throughout many counties in the state.

CDFW this week successfully released approximately 500,000 juvenile salmon into the Klamath River just below the Iron Gate Dam.

The snow will melt soon in the Lake Tahoe region and winter will give way to a busy spring for area wildlife. Bears that have been wintering in their dens will emerge soon and they will be hungry!

The Governor’s Unified Cannabis Enforcement Taskforce seized more than $53,620,600 million in illegal cannabis in the first quarter of this calendar year.

On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, the Pacific Fishery Management Council acted unanimously to recommend closure of California’s commercial and recreational ocean salmon fisheries through the end of the year, mirroring recommendations made last year to close the fisheries in 2023.
