The California Fish and Game Commission voted unanimously this week to close in-river salmon sport fishing in the Klamath River Basin and Central Valley rivers for the second consecutive year.

CDFW is now accepting applications for a limited number of deer and pig hunting access permits for opening weekend, Aug. 10 and 11, 2024, in Zone A for the general season. This is not a special hunt; the drawing is to control the number of hunters in these areas on opening weekend only.

CDFW has received increased reports of California brown pelicans, a federally protected species, stranded along the coast from Santa Cruz County south to San Diego County, since late April.

Chronic wasting disease has been detected for the first time in California’s deer and elk.

CDFW Director Charlton H. Bonham has closed the recreational razor clam fishery in Humboldt County following a recommendation from state health agencies determining that consumption of razor clams in the area poses a significant threat for domoic acid exposure.
