Wildlife areas, ecological reserves and other properties may be closed due to wildfires, flooding or storm damage. Hunters and outdoor enthusiasts are strongly encouraged to check for closures before leaving on any recreational trip.

Various Days — Shared Habitat Alliance for Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Access Permit Application for Fishing Opportunities. Lake Barrett bass survey opportunities in April are open for applications through the SHARE program. A $15.12 non-refundable application fee is charged for each choice. 1 — Salt Marsh and Dunes Tour at Ballona Reserve, 10 a.m. to noon, 303 Culver Blvd., Playa del Rey (90293). Explore the wonder of nature in the middle of urban Los Angeles! Friends of Ballona docents will lead the tour through the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve and teach participants about its history and ecology. Enjoy all the special and unique native plants on the journey through different habitats. Participants might even meet some of the local wildlife. 1 — City of Davis Wetlands Tours, 9 a.m. to noon, City of Davis Wastewater Treatment Plant, 45400 Co Road 28H, Davis (95618). The City of Davis Wetlands tours are hosted by Yolo Basin Foundation on the first Sunday of the month at the City of Davis Wastewater Treatment Plan. These tours offer a refreshing outdoor experience where friends and family can learn all about local wetlands, native fauna and flora, and the importance of these biodiverse ecosystems. 5 — Flyway Nights Speaker Series – Max Stevenson: Putah Creek Salmon in the Yolo Bypass, 7-9 p.m., via Zoom. Max Stevenson, the Putah Creek Streamkeeper, will talk about the fall-run chinook salmon migration through the Yolo Bypass. Thousands of adults come each year to spawn and millions of juvenile salmon can migrate out of Putah Creek, through the Toe Drain (aka Tule Canal) and to the ocean beyond. 6 — Community Habitat Restoration, 3-5 p.m., 303 Culver Blvd., Playa del Rey (90293). Let’s roll up sleeves to help the Friends of Ballona Wetlands restore the last coastal wetland in Los Angeles. Get hands-on experience while learning about urban ecology. The time and effort put in to clearing out invasive vegetation give our slow-growing native plants room to thrive. 7 — Lake Sonoma Steelhead Festival, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Milt Brandt Visitor Center, 3288 Skaggs Spring Road, Geyserville (95441). The Lake Sonoma Steelhead Festival is a free event celebrating the endangered steelhead trout, which returns annually to the Congressman Don Clausen Fish Hatchery to spawn the next generation of fish. Adults and children can view nature exhibits and learn about environmental stewardship, preservation of natural resources and protection of threatened and endangered species. 11 — Shared Habitat Alliance for Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Access Permit Application Deadline for Bull Elk Hunts in Del Norte County This Spring. Five SHARE bull elk tags will be available to apply for until March 11. These first-time special spring hunts are meant to relieve elk depredation on 12 properties in the Del Norte South Side Group in Del Norte County. The hunts will take place between April 1 and June 30. Each hunter will have four consecutive days of access to be determined by the landowner and hunter. A $14.86 non-refundable application fee is charged to apply for this hunt. For more information, visit the SHARE Hunting page.

11 — Bird Walk at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery, 8-11 a.m., Nimbus Fish Hatchery Visitor Center, 2001 Nimbus Road, Gold River (95670). Finches, hawks and herons, oh my! Join CDFW and Sacramento Audubon Society for a family-friendly bird walk along the American River scenic trail. Expect easy walking with frequent stops to scan the river, riparian habitat and surrounding bluffs for local resident birds. 12 — California Fish and Game Commission Marine Resources Committee Meeting, 8:30 a.m., California Natural Resources Building, 715 P Street, Second Floor, Sacramento (95814). The meeting will also be held via webinar/teleconference. For more information, visit the FGC website.

13-15 — Central Valley Sportsmen’s Boat and RV Show, Kern County Fairgrounds, 1142 South P Street, Bakersfield (93307). CDFW will be returning to the Central Valley Sportsmen’s Boat and RV Show at the Kern County Fairgrounds. CDFW staff will be onsite and available to answer questions. 14 — Ballona Creek Cleanup at Ballona Reserve, 9:30 a.m. to noon, 303 Culver Blvd., Playa del Rey (90293). Help the Friends of Ballona Wetlands clean up the last coastal wetland in Los Angeles. Did you know that 130 square miles of storm drain flow into Ballona Creek? Gutter trash from as far away as North Hollywood can end up right in the wetlands. The time and effort put into clearing out debris means less trash in the wetlands, on beaches and in the open ocean. Parking and entrance gate are located behind Local Market. 14 — Fiji Trail Invasive Plant Removal at Ballona Reserve, 9-11 a.m., 13730 Fiji Way, Marina Del Rey (90292). Help CDFW remove invasive weeds in the public access trail known as the Fiji Trail in Area A. Get hands-on experience while learning about urban ecology with a chance to witness the beauty of the area in flora and fauna. The time and effort put into clearing out invasive vegetation gives slow-growing native plants room to thrive. Parking is free on a first-come, first-served basis with an area to lock up bicycles. Registration will be on site and consist of a volunteer signup form/waiver. All ages are welcome, but minors will need to have a parent or guardian present. 14 — Fishing in the City Clinic with Santa Clara County Parks, time to be announced, Sandy Wool Lake, 3248 Levin Park Access Road, Milpitas (95035). This event is for youth 15 and under with a parent. Pre-registration is required and will be available via the CDFW Fishing in the City – San Francisco Bay & Delta Region page.

14 — Guided Tour of the Nimbus Fish Hatchery, 11 a.m., Nimbus Fish Hatchery Visitor Center, 2001 Nimbus Road, Gold River (95670). Join CDFW for a free, family-friendly, guided tour to explore the Nimbus Fish Hatchery and neighboring American River on the second Saturday of each month. Learn about the amazing life cycle of salmon and steelhead, walk along the American River and discuss hatchery operations. Participants may see fish and other wildlife, such as migratory birds, signs of mammal activity and cool insects. The maximum group size is 25 people, first-come, first-served. 15 — Tot Time at Nimbus Fish Hatchery, 11 a.m., 2001 Nimbus Road, Gold River (95670). Join CDFW for Tot Time every third Sunday of the month at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery Visitor’s Center for nature-themed stories and to create a fun craft! Recommended for children ages 2-7 years, with parent/guardian supervision. There is no cost for these events and registration is not required. 16-18 — Interagency Ecological Program (IEP) Annual Workshop. The IEP annual workshop is an informal event held each spring focused on sharing the relevant and timely ecological research pertaining to the monitoring and management of the San Francisco Estuary. The workshop is a free and hybrid event being held in the auditorium of the CNRA headquarters building. Registration to attend in-person or remotely is required. In-person registration ends March 6 or when all tickets are gone. Remote registration remains open through the workshop. 18 — Last Day of California Spiny Lobster Recreational and Commercial Fishing Season Statewide. Recreational lobster report card data can be reported by logging on to CDFW’s Online License Sales and Services website. All cards purchased for the 2025-2026 spiny lobster season must be reported by April 30 to avoid a non-return fee the following season. 21 — CDFW Fishing Clinic with the Friends of Lake Chabot, Greater Vallejo Recreation District, Recology and Vallejo Rotary Club, 7:30-11 a.m., Dan Foley Park, Lake Chabot, 1498 N. Camino Alto, Vallejo (94589). This Fishing Clinic is for youth 7-15 years old accompanied by an adult. It is intended to teach participants the basics of fishing, including casting, tying knots, baiting a hook, fishing safety, understanding fishing ethics and watershed education.
