The recreational Dungeness crab season will open statewide beginning Nov. 2, 2024. The use of traps will be temporarily prohibited between the Sonoma/Mendocino County line and Lopez Point, Monterey County (Fishing Zones 3 and 4) when the season opens due to presence of humpback whales and potential for entanglement from trap gear.

California’s statewide waterfowl season opens Saturday, Oct. 26, and waterfowl hunters headed to public hunting areas this season will encounter some of the best habitat and wetland conditions in years.

$7.5 million in grants were awarded for 10 projects that support public recreational boating access to state waterways. These projects are federally funded by the Sport Fish Restoration Grant Program, administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

The California Fish and Game Commission (Commission) acted on a variety of issues affecting California’s natural resources at its August 14-15 meeting in Fortuna, Humboldt County. The public was also able to participate via webinar and by phone.

CDFW Wildlife Officer Academy graduated and pinned badges on 54 new officers today in Paradise, Butte County. This group represents the largest academy graduating class in CDFW history.
