California Monitoring Plan Sample Frame

Sample Frame Development

The large geographic extent of salmonid populations throughout California are too vast to be measured completely. As a result, data must be inferred from a sample of measurements. To be consistent throughout the state, the California Monitoring Plan (CMP) created a sampling design based on the random selection of sample stream segments. This design allows for statistical inference to be made throughout the entire area within the sample frame.

Final: field reconnaissance complete; final sample draw complete; project is using rotating panel or census sampling

Working: initial sample draw complete; reconnaissance sampling is ready or underway

In Development: limits of anadromy defined or in process, GIS processing started, but sample frame is not ready to be used in surveys

Possible Future Frame: no work has been started to develop the sample frame
