*In California, a hunter is considered a “New Hunter” beginning on the date of issuance of their first one-day, two-day or annual California hunting license, and for a period extending through the remainder of the license year from the date of issuance and for the following four consecutive subsequent license years.
**Hunters may bring their own dogs, provided the dog is trained in the practices of hunting upland game. Recommended dog breeds are: Pointers, or Flushers. (All dogs must remain in the owner's control.)
