2018/19 Learn-to-Fish Clinics

updated 8/24/18

Most programs listed are 45-minute clinics that offer instruction in the basics of fishing including knots, casting, rigging, safety, ethics and urban runoff. All equipment and tackle is available to participants and anglers are required to use rods provided. There is no charge for the clinics; however, there may be a park entrance fee. Each adult may bring up to two children and a driver's license is required for rod loan.

Most events are for children ages 5-15 only and adults are not allowed to fish. Most programs begin at 8:00 a.m. Clinics begin about every 10 minutes with the final clinic starting at 10:00 a.m., or when we have reached the maximum capacity for the day which is usually 150 participants.

Very few, if any, fish programs are offered during the warmer months of summer and early fall. The drought is impacting lakes and making the situation more dire. Pier fishing and fishing the larger, deeper lakes is a good option.
