Lake Tahoe is primarily known for its fantastic Lake Trout (Mackinaw) fishery, though Brown, Rainbow, and Lahontan Cutthroat Trout – as well as Kokanee Salmon also call the lake home. To target these Lake Trout it is best to have access to a boat with downriggers, either your own or one you rent, as Lake Trout typically inhabit deeper waters. When searching for Lake Trout use your fish finder to find underwater mounts or rockpiles that the fish hang out near, then drop your lure (stick baits or spoons) down to the desired depth and hold on. Once you find the Lake Trout it usually doesn’t take long for them to strike. If you don’t have access to a boat and you still want to fish Lake Tahoe don’t worry, the lake has many fishing guides that would be happy to take you out in search of your big fish. Good luck and enjoy the lake!</p>
