CDFW’s Cannabis Program Speaking at Two Events in March and April

Who: The California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (CDFW) Cannabis Program.

What, When and Where: On March 30, cannabis program staff will participate on a virtual panel titled “Supporting Legal Cannabis Farming in California - A Funder's Perspective” with the California Association of Resource Conservation Districts (CARCD). April 25-28, cannabis program staff will participate in person at the Salmonid Restoration Federation’s 40th Annual Salmonid Restoration Conference. Multiple presentations are included in the session titled, “Evolving Policies and Tools to Advance Salmon Restoration: Flows, Cannabis, and Funding Opportunities,” including “How CDFW’s Cannabis Restoration Grant Program Can Contribute to Salmonid Restoration.” More details on the event and other presentations from CDFW can be found on the conference web page.

Why: CDFW’s Cannabis Program consists of permitting, grants, outreach, lands, monitoring and enforcement staff with a common goal to protect California’s natural resources. CDFW supports the regulated cannabis market and actively looks for ways to partner with the regulated community and other important partners to achieve conservation benefits. The partnerships create mutually beneficial relationships that ultimately protect and conserve California’s natural resources.

The Cannabis Restoration Grant Program (CRGP) is committed to promoting ecosystem restoration and ecological health throughout California in collaboration with a diversity of stakeholders. The program offers multiple funding opportunities for Tribes, public agencies and non-profit organizations interested in restoring ecosystem function, improving habitat connectivity and assisting cultivators become fully licensed and permitted. CRGP funded projects include enhancing fish and wildlife habitat for listed and sensitive species, restoring ecological resilience, improving water conservation and irrigation efficiency, road improvement projects that reduce sedimentation and sustainable agriculture practices. CDFW and Mendocino County Team Up to Hold Cannabis Technical Assistance Workshop Series

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and Mendocino County have teamed up to hold a series of cannabis technical assistance workshops in August and September.

These technical workshops are ideal for new and legacy farmers as well as cannabis consultants. Mendocino County’s permitting staff and CDFW’s cannabis program staff will be available to discuss project specific technical questions, compliance and cannabis grant program opportunities. Representatives of the Department of Cannabis Control and the State Water Resources Control Board will also be available.

“It’s great to be partnering with Mendocino County to help cultivators through the permitting and licensing process,” said Corinne Gray, CDFW’s Acting Cannabis Program Director. “We look forward to meeting with the community, answering questions and helping cultivators move toward obtaining annual licenses.”

Cultivators and consultants from Mendocino County are welcome. Meetings are by appointment only and will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Once someone is scheduled for a meeting, a confirmation email will be sent with instructions on what to bring to the appointment.

Meetings can be scheduled by emailing cannabisprogram@mendocinocounty.org. Please be sure to include “Mendocino Pop-Up” in the subject line of the email and include your preferred date, time, location and topic in the message. No walk-ins will be allowed. Masking is recommended.

CDFW to Hold Technical Assistance Workshop for Cannabis Cultivators in Trinity County

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is holding a cannabis technical assistance workshop on April 28 in Weaverville.

This pop-up technical workshop is ideal for new and legacy farmers as well as cannabis consultants. CDFW’s cannabis permitting, engineering and grant staff will be available to discuss project specific technical questions, notification package assistance, compliance questions and cannabis grant program opportunities.

“When someone comes in the door with their project at our workshop, our scientific staff, engineers and geologists will be there to help them advance their project toward completion,” said Jeremy Valverde, CDFW’s Cannabis Program Director. “We expect that everyone who comes in the door to talk to us will benefit from these one-on-one meetings, and we will follow-up if needed to answer additional questions.”

Cultivators and consultants from neighboring counties are welcomed. Meetings are by appointment only and will be reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once someone is scheduled for a meeting, a confirmation email will be sent with instructions on what to bring to the appointment.
