What is the CRFS?
The California Recreational Fisheries Survey (CRFS) collects data on California's marine recreational fisheries, and estimates the catch and effort of anglers fishing for marine finfish in California. For more information on the CRFS, please visit their web page.
How the Northern and Central California Finfish Research and Management Project complements the CRFS
The project is currently is involved in research to investigate potential alternative methods to collecting recreational fishing information on beaches. The results will be analyzed and evaluated for potential methodology changes to how the CRFS collects beach-based fishery information.
The project collects biological data including length, weight, and sex as well as aging structures from surfperch and California halibut. These data sets provide additional information for an ongoing stock assessment of California halibut and for evaluating the status of California's surfperch resource.
